A one page GM-less roleplaying game of suspense for 1 or more players.

The Waiting is inspired by the anxiety caused by waiting for the unknown.

In The Waiting you play as a character in a setting where it hasn’t happened yet. It is definitely going to happen, but no one knows when it will happen. Until it happens, there is only The Waiting.

What are you waiting for?

Files included with this download:

  • The Waiting PDF (Printer Friendly)
  • The Waiting rich and plain text files (Screen Reader Ready)
  • TTRPG Safety Toolkit Guide PDF by Kienna Shaw and Lauren Bryant-Monk.

Some have shared that they think this game is not worth $3, even though I also offer community copies for free and the preview images contain the whole game. I agree it’s not worth $3 — it’s now worth $500. So give me a half-k or get it free. Either way, stop complaining about people charging for their work.

This game seems cool and i think i'll try it with my friend :) Love the illustration on the cover too ♥

Can't imagine this is worth 3 dollars. No offense.

Might as well just sit at a table with friends and talk silly hypotheticals.

Upon further reflection, I came to realize that my comment was pretty shitty.
Especially since I didn't give it a fair shot.
I want to give the creator my deepest apologies, as I'm sure they did spend a lot of work on it.

cool, snag a free community copy or save the screenshots from the image previews. the whole game is available to you at no charge. paying is optional. it costs zero dollars to shut the fuck up about creators optionally charging less than a cup of coffee to support their work.

Woah. The heat!

Look, I really didn't mean anything by it.

I just think the game could use a bit of work. Wasn't trying to rag on you.

There is potential here.

Nearly all of the language you've used, on THEIR page no less, is belittling towards them.

I'm sure someone in your life has said this to you before, but we could all use the reminder from time to time: "If you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all."

Try this: "The game seems like it would be a lot of fun with an open minded group, and likely mindbendingly hilarious with the right one. It's abstract and feels like a satirical look at what roleplaying looks like from an outside perspective! Here's a couple bucks because I love seeing a designer put themselves out there on an experimental game that we all get to see and learn from."

That said, with the sudden price increase, WHEW am I glad to have gotten this in the Support the Ukraine bundle and I'm glad so many artists and designers were willing to put up their hard work for the cause.

You're absolutely right. The tone in my choice of words probably sounded more bad than I intended.

My apologies. I'll give the game a fair try if I can get some friends around.

The 'rules' don't explain what the players should be doing aside from sometimes rolling a die...

"Each round everyone describes what they do during The Waiting."
